Aubrey L. Holt

Aubrey L. Holt, of Milan passed away Thursday October 5, 2017 at Christ Hospital in Cincinnati, OH. Aubrey was born Monday August 15, 1938  in Milan the son of Anthony and Margaret (Gabbard) Holt. He married Thelma (Martin) Holt May 12, 1962 and she survives.  

Aubrey served his country in the Navy. He retired from Monsanto in 1988 and was a self-employed truck driver from 1989-2001.  He was a bluegrass singer, entertainer and founding member of the highly- influential Boys from Indiana.  Throughout the run of the Boys From Indiana, Aubrey Holt was among the most recognized and admired vocalist in bluegrass.  He was a member of the Boys from Indiana from 1973-1995, Aubrey played with his brothers: Jerry and Tom Holt, Uncle: Harley and many others. He joined his sons band Tony Holt and The Wildwood Valley Boys from 2005-2015. In 2011 Holt was inducted into the Society for the Preservation of Bluegrass Music of America Hall of Greats for his songwriting. He enjoyed music, fishing, camping, family, friends and telling stories.  

Aubrey is survived by wife of 55 years: Thelma Holt; children: Carla Holt; Brent Holt; Tony (Jackie) Holt; Margie (Roger) Minger; Rhonda (Gary) Schmidt all of Milan. 6 grandchildren: Caleb, Sara, Graci, Jared, Levi, Rachel. 5 great-grandchildren: Jordyn, Jackson, Cash, Marilyn, Christopher. Siblings: Jerry (Rose) Holt; Bill (Dottie) Holt; Judy (Merle) Feller; Tom (Joyce) Holt all of Milan.  He was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter Anita Holt.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00AM on Wednesday October 11, 2017 at Hope Baptist Church 15593 US 50 Dillsboro In 47018 with Pastor Tom Holt officiating.  Burial with military rites will follow in New Craven Cemetery at Milan.  Visitation will be on Tuesday from 3-7PM at the church.  Memorials may be made in his memory to Aubrey Holt Music Scholarship.
