Harold Meyer Obituary

Harold Martin Meyer, 92 of Dillsboro, IN, passed away Saturday, January 27, 2018.         

Harold was born on October 11, 1925 the son of Harry and Emma (Nolker) Meyer in Pleasant Township, Switzerland County, IN.

He was baptized on November 1, 1925 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Dewberry by Rev. Harry Behning.  His sponsors were Martin Nolker and Andrew Eversman.

He received his grade school and Christian Education at St. Paul’s Parochial School and was confirmed on April 12, 1939 by Rev. Otto Schlegelmilch.  His confirmation verse was, “If you continue in my word, you are truly my disciples; and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.”  John 8: 31 & 32.  He graduated from Cross Plains High School.

On November 11, 1944 he was called to serve his country.  After an abbreviated basic training he was sent to Europe on April 3, 1945.  There he spent 16 months with the Occupational Forces in Germany and was honorably discharged on August 18, 1946.

On February 8, 1958 he was united in marriage to Marjorie Emma Cutter by Pastor Gerald Herbener.  Because God did not bless them with children they made a Christian home for an adopted daughter, Denise.

Much of his life was spent in the business world.  After leaving the farm he worked for Farm Bureau Co-op for 8 years.  He then became associated with Aurora Supply Company, Inc. in 1961.  Here he served in many capacities including purchasing, management and held the offices of secretary & president.

He was an active member at St. Paul’s Dewberry until he transferred his membership in 1961 to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Bear Branch.  Here he served many years on church council as secretary, treasurer, deacon, master mechanic and Sunday school superintendent.  He also taught Sunday school for a number of years.  After the 1974 tornado he was elected as chairman and coordinator of the building committee.

He departed this life on January 27, 2018 at Dearborn County Hospital at the age of 92 years, 9 months and 15 days.

He was preceded in death by his wife Marjorie, his parents, one brother Arnold, four sister-in-laws: Cordula Meyer, Helen Cutter, Marcella Cutter and Eleanor Selmeyer, a nephew Thomas Meyer and two brother-in-laws Norman Cutter & Clarence Selmeyer.

He is survived by his daughter Denise (Keith) Ross and 2 grandsons: Jasper & Hunter Ross, 1 brother Paul (Dorothy) Meyer and 1 brother-in-law Marvin Cutter and several cousins, 5 nieces, 11 nephews and several great nieces and great nephews.  He was honored to be the Godfather of Thomas Meyer, David Meyer and Katelyn (Bruns) Vollmer.

Services will be held Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at 11 A.M. at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Bear Branch, with Rev. Ron Haesley officiating.
