David "Herbie" Herbert

       David “Herbie” Herbert, 71, of Milan passed away Wednesday, September 20, 2023 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Lawrenceburg. David was born on Sunday, July 20, 1952 in Batesville; son of Vincent and Mary Jane (Kirchbaum) Herbert. David married the love of his life, Shirley (Moody) Herbert, on June 3, 1972 and she preceded him on February 8, 2014. David served in the National Guard for 6 years, from 1971-1978. He worked as a painter and maintenance engineer at Hillrom for 35 years. David was also a member of the Grace Baptist Church. David enjoyed collecting antique tools and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

       David will be missed by his sons Robert (Lori) Herbert of Elizabeth City, North Carolina, and Vernon (Brittany) Herbert of Milan; daughters Tina (Randy) Ashcraft of Milan and Debbie (Albert) Arthur of Milan; brother Vincent Herbert of North Vernon; sister Donna Holman of Greensburg; 24 grandchildren; 57 great-grandchildren; and 18 great-great-grandchildren.

       David was preceded in death by his parents Vincent and Mary Jane Herbert; wife Shirley Herbert; son Thomas Herbert; brother Dale Herbert; and sisters Lydia Smith and Ginny Bedel.

       Family and friends may gather in remembering David from 4:00-7:00 PM Saturday, September 23, 2023 at Grace Baptist Church in Milan. A service will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, September 24, 2023 also at the church with Pastor Charlie Miller officiating. Burial will take place in United Methodist Cemetery in Batesville. Military rites will be conducted. Memorials may be given in honor of David to the Milan Fire Department or Grace Baptist Church.
