Richard "Rick" Shock Obituary

       Richard William “Rick” Shock, 76, passed away Monday, April 22, 2024, at The Knolls of Oxford in Oxford, Ohio. Rick was born on January 5, 1948, in Altoona, Pennsylvania. He grew up in Latrobe, Pennsylvania and was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. He was the son of Richard and Mary (Wertzberger) Shock.

       He attended and graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1970. Rick was a Lieutenant Commander in the United States Navy where he served during the Vietnam War. Rick had a career in medical device sales and was instrumental in the development of dental lasers in that industry. He was an avid golfer and sailor. He followed his love of sailing by working as director of sales and marketing at Hunter Marine in Alachua, Florida during the 80’s. He loved to sail competitively in the Chesapeake Bay and later in Jacksonville, Florida. In later years, he and his wife Carolyn kept a sailboat in the Abacos Islands off West Palm Beach, Florida.  Rick was passionate about his love of animals throughout his life with his dogs Shanghai, Fritz, Jake, Siggy, Rags and his cats Abby and Jade. When he traveled professionally, he sometimes even took his pets with him.

       Rick will be missed by his spouse Carolyn (Roedl) Shock of Oxford, Ohio; brothers Paul Gregory (Joyce) Shock of Chesapeake, Virginia, David (Teddie) Shock of Lexington, Kentucky; sister Cyndy (Tom) Shaul of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Rick was preceded in death by his parents Richard and Mary Shock.

       A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will take place at the Knolls of Oxford; 6727 Contreras Rd, Oxford, OH 45056, on Saturday, June 15, 2024, at the main auditorium at 1:00 PM. Bring any funny "Ricky" stories you might have with you to share with the group- We know there's many out there!! Memorials may be given in honor of Rick to the Ripley County Humane Society or PAWS of Dearborn County.
