Richie A. Schmaltz, 83, of Dillsboro passed away Tuesday, April 1, 2025, at Manderley Health Care Center with his loving family by his side. Richie was born on Monday, June 9, 1941, in Dillsboro; son of Robert L. Schmaltz and Margarette (Britton) Schmaltz. Richie married the love of his life, Cheryl (Liston) Schmaltz, on June 7, 1963, and she survives him. Richie worked for over 50 years at Seagrams. He was previously a Dillsboro Deputy and was previously on the Dillsboro Volunteer Fire Department. Richie had a passion for farming and was always known to be a very hard worker. Most of all Richie loved his family and his dogs.

       Richie will be missed by his wife Cheryl Schmaltz of Dillsboro; son Michael (Roger) Schmaltz of Anaheim, California; daughters Melissa (Stacy) Sites of Lawrenceburg and Dianna (Mark) Bowling of Loves Park, Illinois; brother William “Bud” Schmaltz of Dillsboro; grandchildren Thierrin, Brittany, Tyler, Christopher, Makenzie, and Max; and great-grandchildren Tessa, Olivia, Harper, Kileigh, and Cadin.

       Richie was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Margarette Schmaltz and brother Daniel A. Schmaltz.

       Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Memorials may be given in honor of Richie to American Cancer Society.
