Obituary

        Thelma J. (Carter) Hunt, 87, of Cincinnati, formerly of Dillsboro, passed away Sunday, July 2, 2023 at her son’s home. Thelma was born on Wednesday, August 14, 1935 in Revelo, Kentucky; daughter of Dewey and Ethel (Perkins) Carter. Thelma married William O. Hunt in 1992 and he preceded her in death. Thelma worked at Monsanto as a chemical operator where she was the first female to work at their facility. Thelma was a lifetime member of Hope Baptist Church. She loved sewing, painting, gardening, shopping, and was also known to be the best cook around. Thelma most of all cherished the time spent with her family and her loving dog, Scooter.

        Thelma will be missed by her son Gary (Jan) Lay of Cleves, Ohio; daughter Alesia (Tom) Wilger of Finneytown, Ohio; stepdaughter Marsha Hunt of Elizabethtown; brother Robert Ray Carter of Moores Hill; grandchildren Miranda (Connell) Paytes, Chris Lay, Josh (Jessica) Hunt, Charlie (Lauren) Hunt, and J.R. (Kristi) Hunt; great-grandchildren Estella, Chance, Savannah, Carter, Kendra, Zach, Abby, Madison, Carson, and Mason.

       Thelma was preceded in death by her parents Dewey and Ethel Carter; husbands William B. Lay and William O. Hunt; brothers Ronald Carter, Thurman Carter, and Donald Carter; step grandson Billy Hunt; and beloved dog, Duke.

        Family and friends may gather in remembering Thelma from 5:00 - 7:00 PM on Sunday, July 9, 2023 at Filter-DeVries-Moore Funeral Home in Dillsboro. A service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, July 10, 2023 also at the funeral home with Pastor Jon Bush officiating. Burial will take place in Oakdale Cemetery. Memorials may be given in honor of Thelma to PAWS of Dearborn County.
