Wayne "Jerry" Becraft

               Wayne “Jerry” Becraft, 78, departed this earth on Sunday, April 4, 2021 at his home in Moores Hill, IN., under the care of his wife and Loving Hearts Hospice.

He was born July 6, 1942 in Milan, IN., son of Hazel Glackin Becraft Peelman and Theodore Peelman.

He is survived by his wife Carolyn, daughter Margaret “Margie” Becraft, Lawrenceburg, IN., brother Larry (Linda) Peelman, Farmersburg, IN., nephews Brad (Misty) Peelman, Terre Haute, IN., and Gregg Peelman, Farmersburg, IN.

He was preceded in death by his daughter Michelle Leigh Becraft and his parents.

Jerry grew up in Moores Hill where he mowed lawns for spending money, played baseball on school and legion teams, practiced basketball on Millers court, and graduated from school. He was a successful member of the high school basketball team. Reunions with school mates were always a rehashing of basketball memories.

He joined the USAF after graduation and spent almost 4 years at Yakota AFB, Japan. It was a memorable experience that he talked much about in recent years. He was transferred from Yakota to Keesler AFB Biloxi, MS., where he met his destiny and future wife, Carolyn, also a USAF member. Jerry and Carolyn were married in Gulfport, MS., on July 30, 1965.

Jerry loved sports all his life. At one time, he bowled on 3 different leagues in Harrison, Ohio, with work buddies. He also played softball on Fernald teams, usually at third base. He loved being able to switch hit. He also played softball for several years in an over 40 league in Sunman.

It was a sad time when physical limitations prevented him from playing the sports he loved.

Jerry was employed at Fernald Nuclear Plant in various positions from clerk to Transportation Supervisor for 38 years. He was so proud to have never received a DOT violation on his watch. He looked forward to his retirement and enjoyed a few years of good health.

One of his joys in life was being able to coach his girls and their friends for 11 years through T-ball and softball. Each one of these girls were special to Jerry and Carolyn. It was a privilege to be a part of their growing up experience. Everlasting friendships were formed with these kids and their families.

In recent years, watching the backyard birds and wildlife from the kitchen window brought moments of happiness. A shout that, “the big red head is here”, would be given when the pileated woodpeckers showed up for their suet. Observing the blue jays fight for peanuts was a lot of fun, too.

Jerry loved his family, his cats, college basketball, old westerns, and Two and a Half Men.

He will be missed.

There will be no visitations or funeral. A private graveside service officiated by Pastor Ted Hamrick will be held at Forest Hill Cemetery.
